What happened

Coastal Turf, a South Carolina lawn care company serving the Charleston and Myrtle Beach areas, is one of the five companies Legacy Lawns launched with. Lawn & Landscape reported the launch of Legacy Lawns, a national lawn care platform based in Gainesville, Georgia, on January 30, 2026, and Legacy Lawns issued its own announcement on February 2, describing each of the five as a strategic partnership. The release did not describe how the partnerships were structured, and it included no financial terms.

The company

Ross Settle started Coastal Turf in 2005 as a one-person operation run out of his garage, and the company is headquartered in Summerville. The company runs residential lawn programs built around fertilization, weed control, fire ant control and liquid aeration, and adds tree and shrub care and mosquito control. Its service area runs up the coast from Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties through Georgetown and Horry counties on the Grand Strand. Through Project Evergreen, a charitable program, it provides free lawn care for deployed members of the military.

Under the model Legacy Lawns set out at launch, each partner brand keeps its name and leadership, and all employees stay with their own companies. "We didn't just grow a company, we built a team worth investing in," said Settle, whom Legacy Lawns identifies as Coastal Turf's owner. "Legacy Lawns celebrates our success and has set us up to go even further, together."

The buyer

Legacy Lawns was co-founded by CEO Jennifer Jorge, who grew King Green, the Gainesville lawn care company her father Charlie King founded in 1987, into a second-generation business. King Green is the platform's foundation and operates in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Plexus Capital announced an investment in Legacy Lawns in June 2025, eight months before the launch.

The other launch partners are Georgia Lawngrowers of Suwanee, Georgia; Purple Care of Fort Worth, Texas; and Perm-O-Green, which operates in Wichita Falls, Lubbock, Longview, Tyler and Fort Worth, Texas. Together the five give Legacy Lawns more than 200 team members. Purple Care founder Justin Berg joined Legacy Lawns as vice president of the Southwest region.

"We started it because too many great companies disappear the moment the founder steps away," Jorge said at launch. Whether a former owner stays on with Legacy Lawns varies case by case: some continue leading within the platform, and others are looking for a succession plan. "We don't approach owners with a box and ask them to step inside it when it comes to structuring a partnership," Jorge told the National Association of Landscape Professionals in June.

What this means for lawn care owners

With Coastal Turf, Legacy Lawns has two brands working in South Carolina: King Green, which also serves the state, and a Summerville operator that covers the coast from Charleston to the Grand Strand. For a lawn care owner in that market, a platform operating locally promises to keep a partner's name and leadership, has private equity capital behind it, and has shown what one founder's continuing role can look like: Purple Care's Berg moved into regional leadership inside the platform. Because Jorge says each partnership is structured owner by owner, the owner's own role and the brand commitment are terms to get in writing before signing, not assumptions carried over from a launch release.
