MRE Capital announced on July 1, 2026, that DJ's Landscape Management, one of its platform companies, had completed the acquisition of Greenscape Inc., a commercial landscaping company founded in Massachusetts in 1987. The deal expands DJ's presence into New England and the Mid-Atlantic, including the Boston, Northern Virginia and greater Richmond metro areas. The same release announced DJ's acquisition of Meadow Green Landscaping in the Twin Cities. The release did not disclose financial terms.
Joe Ciffolillo founded Greenscape in 1987 as a landscape construction firm serving the South Shore communities of Massachusetts, and the company later added commercial grounds maintenance. It now runs a four-season model of landscape maintenance, enhancements, winter services and construction for Class-A commercial properties, HOAs, high-end retail developments, municipalities, multifamily communities and healthcare facilities. It employs more than 250 full-time team members, with maintenance branches in Bellingham and Taunton, Massachusetts; Hudson, New Hampshire; and Fairfax and Richmond, Virginia.
Greenscape built its maintenance book through what it calls "transitional maintenance": working to turn construction accounts into maintenance accounts once the projects are complete.
Leadership and day-to-day operations continue under Derek Durgin as president, Nate Patnaude as vice president of landscape management and Kerri Durgin as CFO. Derek Durgin joined Greenscape in 2000 after owning his own landscape and masonry design-build business, and served as foreman, chief estimator and chief operations officer before becoming president. Kerri Durgin joined as CFO in 2022 after 20 years at Ocean Spray Cranberries.
"Partnering with DJ's allows us to build on that foundation, expand into new markets, and continue serving our clients at the highest level," said Ciffolillo, whom the release identifies as founder and CEO.
DJ Vander Slik founded DJ's Landscape Management in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1992. The company provides landscaping and snow and ice management to commercial properties, and does not take residential work beyond condominiums, apartments and HOAs. Its Midwest locations run across Michigan, from Grand Rapids and Lansing to Ann Arbor, and into Minnesota at Hastings, New Brighton and Prior Lake.
MRE Capital, formed as the family office of David Williams, invested in DJ's in 2024. Greenscape and Meadow Green are DJ's fifth and sixth add-on transactions since then, and with them the company reports more than 1,200 full-time team members. DJ's ranked No. 32 on Lawn & Landscape's 2026 Top 100, up from No. 52 a year earlier.
"Greenscape and Meadow Green both bring strong management teams, attractive customer profiles, and cultures that align closely with DJ's operating philosophy," Williams said.
Greenscape was not a single-branch tuck-in. DJ's bought a company with maintenance branches in three states, a construction arm that feeds its maintenance book, and the managers to run both. For a commercial landscaping owner in New England or the Mid-Atlantic, that puts a platform founded in Grand Rapids, backed by a family office, among the buyers for a multi-state company of Greenscape's size.
The team named to run Greenscape after closing is its president, its CFO and a vice president, not its founder, and strong management teams come first in the sponsor's list of what both companies bring. An owner whose business already runs on a layer of managers below him has the quality this buyer named first.
