What happened

Visterra Landscape Group announced a strategic investment in Liberty Lawn & Landscaping on January 20, 2026. Liberty is a commercial landscape maintenance company based in New Braunfels, Texas, serving the greater San Antonio–Austin corridor. Visterra counted the deal as its 12th strategic partnership since inception and the sixth investment it completed in 2025, so the transaction had closed before it was announced. Much Shelist provided legal counsel. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The company

Christy and Tray Rohlf founded Liberty in 2006 and have led it together since; the announcement quotes both as co-owners. The company provides landscape maintenance and enhancement work to commercial properties and municipalities around San Antonio and Austin, with customers across industrial, manufacturing, retail and office sites, and many of those client relationships go back to the company's early years.

Liberty's operations are to remain in the I-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio, and Pro Landscaper reported that the company would keep operating from its existing location.

"What mattered most to me in choosing a partner was finding a company that truly honors the people behind the work," Christy Rohlf said, naming the team, the customers and the relationships built over the years. Tray Rohlf said joining Visterra "will create even greater opportunities for our employees and customers."

The buyer

Visterra is a Rosemont, Illinois-based commercial landscaping platform backed by Trinity Hunt Partners, founded in 2022. It provides landscape maintenance, enhancement, construction and installation, sweeping, portering and winter services, and describes itself as ranking among the 30 largest landscape service providers in North America.

Liberty extended a Texas footprint Visterra had been building for more than two years. Dyna-Mist, a Dallas–Fort Worth maintenance company founded in 1990, joined in August 2023. Texas Landscape Group, a Houston company with four branches across the metro, followed in November 2025 as Visterra's 11th partnership. Liberty then added the greater San Antonio and Austin metros.

"This partnership, combined with our recent expansion into Houston, strengthens our market-leading capabilities across the state," said Alan T. Handley, Visterra's CEO.

Visterra's Texas deals since Liberty

Visterra has announced two more Texas investments since, both based in Dallas–Fort Worth, where Dyna-Mist already operated. In July 2026 it invested in Qualitiscape Services, a Fort Worth commercial landscaper founded in 1983, which is to keep operating under its existing brand; Visterra counted it as its 15th partnership. In August it invested in Dallas-based Richmond & Associates Landscaping, adding three branches across Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston. Founder Jimmy Richmond, the company's CFO, its director of maintenance and the rest of the team are to remain with the business, with its leaders stepping into expanded roles across Visterra's South region. Richmond was Visterra's 16th partnership and its fourth completed investment of 2026. What this means for Texas commercial landscaping owners

Visterra's San Antonio–Austin position rests on one company its founders ran for twenty years, now described as the platform's newest Texas hub. For a commercial maintenance owner along I-35, that means competing with a local operator that has a statewide platform behind it. The North Texas deals show that Visterra's presence in a market did not stop it buying there: it added Qualitiscape and Richmond in a metro Dyna-Mist had served since 2023. And the releases put different commitments on the record from one deal to the next, a brand in one and leadership roles in another, which makes both points to settle early with this buyer rather than to assume.
