What happened

Dallas–Fort Worth entrepreneurs Dr. Marc Nickell and Chris Brewer acquired MetroScape Landscape, a commercial landscaping company headquartered in Irving, Texas. The deal closed in March 2026 and was announced on October 28, 2026. Nickell is now MetroScape's manager and CEO, and Brewer is its president and COO. Robert Pope, the company's former owner, stays on as general manager. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The seller

MetroScape was founded in 1990 and serves office, multifamily, retail, and other commercial properties across Dallas–Fort Worth. Its work is commercial landscape maintenance, irrigation management, and landscape enhancements, along with renovations and storm readiness and response. Its irrigation work includes smart monitoring, and it gives clients dedicated account management and weekly service reports. Property types range from Class-A office campuses and logistics facilities to HOA, multifamily, and master-planned communities, plus healthcare, municipal, and educational sites.

Clients include Costco, Cushman & Wakefield, Bradford Management, and ResProp. A community director at Horn Barlow Co says she has used MetroScape for 17 years.

Pope built MetroScape over more than 25 years. As general manager, he continues to guide its teams, alongside operations supervisor Johnny Fuentez, who oversees daily field operations.

The buyer

Nickell and Brewer previously led Rocket Station, a Dallas-headquartered provider of outsourced business process services that Nickell co-founded.

The two describe their ownership as local and hands-on. "We're not managing Dallas from a corporate office somewhere else," Brewer said. "Our employees are here. Our customers are here. When something needs attention, we can go see it ourselves."

The partners say they are investing in employees, technology, and operational systems, with particular emphasis on improving the customer experience. Nickell framed the purchase around the region: "There's something especially meaningful about taking what we've learned building businesses and investing it right here at home."

What this means for landscaping owners

For an owner whose customer relationships run through them personally, a sale to operators from another industry can still leave the seller working in the business while the new owners take the executive seats. That puts individual buyers in the same conversation as the platforms and sponsors covered in our guide on selling a landscaping business to private equity.
