APHIX and North Carolina Turf Care

What happened

APHIX acquired North Carolina Turf Care, a Raleigh-area landscaping provider, Lawn & Landscape reported on June 3, 2026. APHIX says the business is now under the ownership of APHIX Grounds Maintenance and that all North Carolina Turf Care contact information remains the same under APHIX's management. The company's office on North Nassau Street in Youngsville, North Carolina, is now APHIX's North Raleigh office. Neither announcement disclosed financial terms.

The seller

Ryan and Travis Tyrell founded North Carolina Turf Care in 2004. The company serves a range of commercial clients, including HOAs, estates, schools, and other commercial properties. Its work runs from residential fertilization, turf applications, and landscape maintenance to irrigation, tree and shrub care, and hardscapes such as patios, outdoor kitchens, and retaining walls, all of which APHIX says it will keep offering.

Ryan and Travis Tyrell will continue to lead the North Carolina market for APHIX alongside branch manager Anthony Cowan and the existing North Carolina Turf Care leadership team.

"After 22 years of building this business, choosing the right partner was not a decision I took lightly," Ryan Tyrell said, adding that APHIX "stood out from the very first conversation." Travis Tyrell said the deal "gives our team access to new resources, expertise, and opportunities while keeping the culture that made North Carolina Turf Care what it is."

The buyer

APHIX is a commercial landscaping company based in Frankfort, Kentucky, led by CEO Allen Sweeney. Lawn & Landscape reported in August 2025 that APHIX had sold to Gauge Capital; before that, it was a portfolio company of Caltius Equity Partners, a Los Angeles private equity firm. At the time of that sale, APHIX had locations in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. Lawn & Landscape reports that this acquisition expands its presence into the Carolinas.

In November 2025, APHIX acquired Parks Landscape Group, a Versailles, Kentucky, company founded in 2003 that serves equine, commercial, and HOA properties. APHIX made Lawn & Landscape's Top 100 list for the first time in 2025 at No. 87 and now ranks No. 63.

"This partnership reflects APHIX's vision of building a Southeastern people-first commercial landscape platform by bringing together the best teams in the industry," Sweeney said.

Who else is buying in the Carolinas

APHIX is not the only sponsor-backed platform buying in the Carolinas this year. Juniper Landscaping, a Bregal Partners portfolio company, acquired Hilton Head Landscapes, which provides maintenance and installation to commercial and residential customers in South Carolina's Lowcountry, in a deal PE Hub reported on May 28, 2026. That deal builds on Juniper's first entry into the region, its 2024 acquisition of Davis Landscaping. Lawn & Landscape's June 2026 roundup, which carried both deals, also noted that Landscape Workshop already operates from more than 50 locations across 14 states, North Carolina and South Carolina among them. What this means for North Carolina landscaping owners

APHIX's move into the Carolinas came through a company its founders spent 22 years building, and those founders now lead the North Carolina market for the buyer. That tells a Raleigh-area owner that when a platform enters a new state by acquisition, the seller's team can end up running the buyer's local operation, and that role is worth negotiating on its own terms. The deal also shows a mixed book was no obstacle. A buyer whose CEO calls it a commercial landscape platform bought a company doing residential fertilization and maintenance alongside HOA and school work, and committed to keep offering those residential services. An owner with a similar blend of accounts should not assume a commercial buyer only wants the commercial half.
