Lynnfield, a long-term holding company, announced a partnership with Dahl Air Conditioning, Inc. on October 20, 2026. Lynnfield lists Dahl among its investments, with a 2026 investment date. Dahl is a union HVAC contractor in Buellton, California, and has served the Central Coast since 1977. The size of Lynnfield's stake and other financial terms were not disclosed.
From its base in Buellton, Dahl installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC systems across the Santa Ynez Valley and the surrounding Central Coast, and it offers 24-hour service. Its customers run from homeowners to commercial and industrial facilities, and Lynnfield describes Dahl's clientele as including military bases and corporate clients. Its technicians work on boilers, chillers, cooling towers, walk-in coolers, and computer room and cleanroom climate control systems. Dahl says it employs the largest staff of service technicians in the area. Dahl also runs an insulation department for commercial and industrial work
Dahl is a union company with an average of fifty employees. The company says being union gives it immediate access to highly skilled mechanics.
Jeff Tourtillotte, Dahl's president and longtime owner, will continue to lead the company as president and will remain an owner in the business. "It was important to me to find a partner who respects what we've built and shares our commitment to our employees and customers," Tourtillotte said.
Lynnfield describes itself as a long-term holding company that buys and builds businesses that stand the test of time. It partners with established companies and entrepreneurial leaders. It looks for businesses that are simple, niche, profitable, and durable, with a track record of 10 years or more.
Dahl is the only industrials company among the four on Lynnfield's portfolio page. The other three, Reputation Brands, Flexscale, and Better Image Solutions, are business-services companies, and Better Image Solutions is listed as realized. Param Shah, Lynnfield's CEO and managing partner, previously co-founded FactoryFour. FactoryFour is a maker of manufacturing execution software that was acquired in 2020. Managing partner Max Gleit is president of Flexscale.
"We partner with great operators for the long term," Shah said. "Our role is to support Jeff and the Dahl team with the resources they need to continue growing while preserving the culture, relationships and reputation that made Dahl successful in the first place."
For an owner of a long-established union shop, the other side of the table need not be a contractor or a private equity fund. A holding company with no other contracting business has no branch network to fold the shop into, so what it takes on is the shop as it already runs. Owners weighing that kind of partner against selling an HVAC business to private equity are comparing two different kinds of owner.
