HVAC & Plumbing Unlimited Joins Liberty Platform in Mid-Atlantic Entry

What happened

Liberty Service Partners announced on April 21, 2026, that HVAC & Plumbing Unlimited, a heating, cooling and plumbing contractor based in Lorton, Virginia, had joined the company in what the release calls a partnership. Liberty said the deal marks its entry into the Mid-Atlantic market. Clew Partners originated the transaction and served as buy-side advisor to NorthCurrent Partners and Liberty. The release does not say what changed hands and gives no financial terms.

The company

John Cunningham founded HVAC & Plumbing Unlimited in 2006. The company does residential and commercial heating, cooling and plumbing work across Northern Virginia, from Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax out to Ashburn, Reston, Centreville, Manassas and Woodbridge. It is a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer with NATE-certified technicians, runs 24/7 emergency service, weekends and holidays included, and sells maintenance agreements.

Cunningham describes it as a family-owned business that three generations of his family have built over more than 20 years. In the announcement, he said the partnership "allows us to build on our legacy while gaining the resources and support to grow, invest in our team, and continue delivering the level of service our customers expect." The company still operates under its own name as one of Liberty's partner brands.

The buyer

Liberty Service Partners is the parent of a group of founder-built residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical brands. It was formed out of NorthCurrent Partners' flagship investment in late 2020. NorthCurrent is a New York private equity firm that makes majority-control investments and describes itself as the extension of a family office that grew and sold a family business to private equity.

Liberty reports 25 office locations and more than 750 team members. Eight of its brands are in Florida, and Restivo's Heating & Air Conditioning covers Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts. Three days after the Lorton announcement, Liberty added Arctic Breeze Air Conditioning & Heating in Northeast Florida.

"Entering the Mid-Atlantic market is a meaningful step for Liberty, and there's no better partner to make that debut with than HVAC & Plumbing Unlimited," said Jason Hiller, Liberty's chief executive.

A second Northern Virginia brand six weeks later

On June 4, 2026, Liberty announced a partnership with DB's Plumbing and Drain, a Woodbridge plumber that David and Jennifer Buky founded in 2008 and that counts more than 17,000 homeowner customers across Northern Virginia. Liberty said that deal expands its plumbing presence in the Mid-Atlantic, and Hiller said, "Plumbing is a big part of where we're taking Liberty." Woodbridge is one of the communities HVAC & Plumbing Unlimited already served, so Liberty now has two partner brands working the same part of Prince William County: one a combined HVAC and plumbing shop, the other plumbing only. What this means for HVAC and plumbing owners

A Liberty brand already working a Northern Virginia territory did not keep the platform from adding a second one on top of it, and both kept their own names. Liberty's descriptions of the two deals led with the owners: "a founder-built brand with deep community roots" in Lorton, and "the family behind it" in Woodbridge. Sharing a service area with a buyuer's brand is no reason to count that buyer out.
