Redwood Services and Pioneer Plumbing

What happened

Redwood Services announced on May 4, 2026, that it had acquired the Sierra Platform from investment firm SE Capital. The platform is a group of five residential service contractors, and one of them is Pioneer Plumbing of Tucson, Arizona. The deal brought Redwood approximately 400 full-time teammates and a portfolio serving more than 40,000 customers a year. Redwood did not disclose financial terms. Homepros reported that the transaction values the group, anchored by Las Vegas-based Sierra Air Conditioning and Plumbing, at approximately $220 million, and that a Redwood representative declined to comment.

On September 1, Pioneer joined Rite Way Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, the Tucson contractor that has been a Redwood partner since 2021. The same crews, trucks, and phone number carried over, and Pioneer's customers now reach heating and cooling and electrical work through the combined team.

The seller

Pioneer Plumbing has served the greater Tucson area since 1981, from Marana and Oro Valley south to Green Valley, Sahuarita, and Vail. It built its business as a plumbing and drain specialist: repairs, drain and sewer work including hydro jetting and trenchless options, traditional and tankless water heaters, water softening and filtration, and septic, with maintenance plans for its customers.

Pioneer was sold by SE Capital as part of the Sierra Platform, a Las Vegas-headquartered provider of residential HVAC, plumbing, and electrical services operating in Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, and Colorado. SE Capital acquired Sierra in January 2020, and in March 2025 it sold Sierra's new construction division to Airtron while keeping the service and replacement business. The other four brands in the sale were Sierra Air Conditioning and Plumbing in Las Vegas, Brothers Plumbing, Heating & Electric in Denver, Ultimate Heating & Air in Boise, and Russett Southwest in Tucson.

The buyer

Redwood Services, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, is a platform of residential HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors. Toronto-based private equity firm Altas Partners made a majority investment in Redwood about a year before this deal. Homepros reported that the Sierra acquisition took Redwood from 19 to 24 contractor partners, not counting tuck-in acquisitions. Redwood said the deal brings it into three new major markets, Las Vegas, Denver, and Boise, while deepening its presence in Tucson.

RJ Magee, who led the Sierra Platform, joined Redwood as senior vice president of operations overseeing integration. "Joining Redwood creates an opportunity to build on that foundation with additional resources and support, while preserving the local leadership and culture that made these businesses successful," Magee said. Redwood founder and CEO Richard Lewis called the five companies "exactly the kind of high-quality, high-integrity businesses that fit within Redwood nation."

How Redwood has built in Tucson

Rite Way, founded in 1959, is Redwood's Tucson partner, and it now covers HVAC, plumbing, electrical, sewer and drain, and septic work from Sierra Vista to Saddlebrooke. It has bought locally before. In September 2022 it acquired Southern Arizona Plumbing, a residential plumber founded in 2007 in Pima County, which moved to the Rite Way name and brand. Pioneer has now taken the same route. What this means for Tucson plumbing owners

Magee's line about preserving local leadership and culture held for Pioneer's people and phone number. The name is what changed, four months after the deal was announced, for a company that had traded as Pioneer for more than four decades. For a Tucson plumbing owner, the useful distinction is between a buyer entering the market and one that already runs a multi-trade contractor in town. Redwood is the second kind, and both Tucson plumbers on this page ended up under the Rite Way name. What happens to the company name is a term to settle before signing, and with a buyer that already has a branch down the road, it is one of the first to raise.
