Ridgeline Roofing Acquires Advantage Roofing & Exteriors in Eighth Deal

What happened

Ridgeline Roofing & Restoration, a Bertram Capital portfolio company, has acquired Advantage Roofing & Exteriors, a roofing and exterior services contractor based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, that serves the surrounding Southwest Michigan region. The deal was announced on September 23, 2026, and is Ridgeline's eighth acquisition. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The seller

Tim Brown founded Advantage Roofing and built it from the ground up. The company does residential and commercial roofing installation and repair, siding, gutters, decks and storm damage restoration, and it also replaces windows and adds insulation. It is a GAF Master Elite contractor and a CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator, installs Mule-Hide flat roof membranes, and employs in-house carpenters for deck building and exterior renovation work. It has a showroom in Kalamazoo.

"It's been a heck of a 28-year ride building Advantage in Kalamazoo, and honestly, it's exciting to see what's next," Brown said in the announcement. "With Ridgeline in our corner, it means more tools in the toolbox for us – bigger team, more support – while we keep doing things the same way we always have." The business news site citybiz reported that Brown will continue with the business after the transaction.

The buyer

Ridgeline is a residential and commercial roofer headquartered in Odenville, Alabama, and co-founded by Chris Baldus, its chief executive, and Scott Bullard. When Bertram Capital invested in January 2024, Ridgeline was a re-roofing and restoration company operating in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. Bertram, a Foster City, California, private equity firm founded in 2006, invests in lower-middle-market companies.

"Advantage Roofing is exactly the kind of business we love partnering with – a founder-led operator with a loyal customer base and a team that's stuck around for years," Baldus said. Zach Bassi, a vice president at Bertram, said the firm is "excited to support Tim and his team as they extend that reputation across Southwest Michigan." The release adds that Ridgeline "is committed to partnering with other growth-oriented roofing and restoration companies."

How Ridgeline built its Midwest run

Ridgeline first moved into the Midwest with its third acquisition, Brody Allen Exteriors in the St. Louis area, in March 2025. Its fifth through eighth acquisitions have all been Midwest contractors: a Twin Cities roofer in January 2026, a Fremont, Nebraska, roofer on June 10, Freedom Roofing & Construction of Champaign, Illinois, later in June, and now Advantage. That makes Kalamazoo the third market Ridgeline has added since June 10, a span of 15 weeks.

The recent sellers share a shape. Freedom was founded in 2014 by Kurt Kiser and the Fremont business in 2011 by JB Harris, and both sell roofing with siding and gutters, the same core mix Advantage offers. What this means for roofing owners

A platform that operated in four Southeastern states when its sponsor arrived has now made four straight acquisitions in the Midwest, and it has done that buying one founder at a time: each of its last three sellers was a local company built by the founder quoted in its announcement. For a Midwest roofing and exteriors owner, that makes a buyer headquartered in Alabama a practical part of the buyer set, and it shows which assets Ridgeline has been willing to buy: a founder's local name, a team that has stayed, and a service mix that reaches past the roof. Advantage brought a founder with a long Kalamazoo record and a carpentry crew, and it is the most recent of those deals.
