Tecta America acquired Big Horn Roofing, a commercial roofing contractor headquartered in Laramie, Wyoming, with additional locations in Cody and Casper. The deal was announced on May 18, 2026, and gives Tecta its first presence in Wyoming. "We have been looking to establish a presence in Wyoming for many years and found an outstanding partner in Big Horn," said Dave Reginelli, Tecta's CEO.
Big Horn Roofing was founded in Cody in 1986 and later moved its main office to Laramie, keeping branches in Cody and Casper. It works across the whole of Wyoming and into northern Colorado, and it specializes in single-ply membrane roofing for commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. The work runs from re-roofing and new construction to service and maintenance, including roof coatings, and the company is an authorized applicator for membrane manufacturers including Firestone, GenFlex, Siplast and Fibertite.
Jason Smallwood is president, and Reginelli named Heath Wheeler and Jeremiah McAlpine alongside him as the people who built the company. "For nearly 40 years, we've believed our people are the foundation of our success," Smallwood said. "Tecta shares that philosophy and brings a long-term perspective that aligns with our values."
Smallwood stays on as president with the existing leadership team, all employees remain in place, and the business now operates as Big Horn Roofing, a Tecta America Company, LLC.
Tecta America, based in Rosemont, Illinois, describes itself as the largest commercial roofing contractor in the United States, with more than 110 locations. It ranked No. 1 on Roofing Contractor's 2025 Top 100 list and completed six acquisitions in 2025, its 25th anniversary year.
Altas Partners acquired Tecta in 2018 and remained majority owner when Leonard Green & Partners made a minority investment in 2021. Big Horn is Tecta's second acquisition of 2026.
Tecta's first deal of 2026, Roofing Standards, a Placentia, California commercial roofer bought in March, was set up the same way. Mike Lee stayed on as president, all of that company's employees remained, and it now trades as Roofing Standards, a Tecta America Company LLC. Tecta says it does not rebrand the companies it buys or replace their leadership, and that all employees stay in place "as with every Tecta acquisition." Reginelli put the approach this way: "Our approach is to preserve what makes companies successful while providing the resources to support long-term growth."
That is one of the buyer models an owner meets when selling a roofing business to private equity: a sponsor-owned national operator that buys established local contractors and leaves them under their own names.
The country's largest commercial roofer entered a state it says it had wanted for years by buying an established local contractor, not by opening a Tecta branch. For an owner in a market Tecta does not serve, Big Horn and Roofing Standards show that the name, the president's seat and the crew are the starting point with this buyer, which leaves price and deal structure as the terms that get negotiated.
