Superior Roofing, a commercial roofing contractor headquartered in Aurora, Colorado, has taken an investment from an investor group made up of MasGroup, BaseCamp Equity, Plexus Capital and Randy Paulson. Plexus announced its investment on March 3, 2026. Superior announced the partnership on April 2, saying it completes the succession plan for its founding owner, Bruce Levey, which Superior initiated several years ago.
Sunflower Bank, NA provided senior debt financing. McGuireWoods LLP and Moore & Van Allen PLLC provided legal services for the investor group, and Citrin Cooperman & Company LLP provided accounting, tax and quality of earnings advice. Cruz-Abrams Seigel LLC was legal counsel to the company. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Bruce Levey founded Superior in 1983. The company specializes in complex commercial roofing projects, with a focus on industrial end markets including education and healthcare, and provides commercial roofing, metal paneling, waterproofing, and repair and maintenance services across the Rocky Mountain West. Alongside commercial work it roofs multifamily and mixed-use buildings and does custom metal fabrication.
Its project list runs from re-roofing Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a Tesla Service Center and a residence hall at Denver University to new construction at UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital, where the entire building, roof included, was completed in 13 months. General contractors it has worked for include GE Johnson, on Canon City Middle School, Flintco and W.E. O'Neil Construction Company.
The leadership stays in place. Superior will continue to be led by Alex Hannum, its president, Brian Ottman and Max Hannum, whom the announcement describes as existing senior executives and owners, each with long-standing relationships with Superior's customers. "When we first started this process, we set out to find a partner that would honor Superior's culture and history, while giving us the resources to build on our strong foundation," Alex Hannum said.
The group combines a family office, two investment firms and an individual investor. BaseCamp Equity was founded by Jeffrey and Adam Kimberly to invest strategic capital in growing lower-middle-market companies, and says it seeks to partner with existing management teams. MasGroup is a strategic single-family office focused on the assets, services and technologies behind infrastructure and healthcare. Its chairman, JC Mas, is also founder and chairman of Synergy Rents, a construction equipment rental company operating in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Plexus Capital, founded in 2005 with offices in Raleigh and Charlotte, has raised more than $3.5 billion across seven structured capital funds and two buyout funds and has partnered with more than 200 companies.
According to Superior's announcement, the group "will help position the Superior team for strategic expansion – both organically and via acquisition." BaseCamp's Jeffrey Kimberly said, "We have been impressed with the platform the team created, their competitive position, the end markets that they serve and the growth trends in the Mountain West region."
Superior's founder succession plan was completed with the people who already run the company kept in charge: the three executives who hold the customer relationships stayed on as owners, and the investors and a bank supplied the capital. For a commercial roofer whose general-contractor relationships sit with a management team rather than with the founder alone, this deal is a working example of a succession built on that team.
